Oink

Installing

Download Oink for Linux, Windows or macOS, install it and activate the free alpha licence.

raw .md

Download Oink from oink.megasupersoft.com. Each download has everything it needs: its own Python, colour management, fonts and FFmpeg. You do not need Blender. Blender is an optional extra, see Engines and the Blender bridge.

What you need

Linuxx86-64, glibc 2.34 or newer (Rocky / RHEL 9, Ubuntu 22.04 and later)
WindowsWindows 10 or 11, 64-bit
macOSApple Silicon
Graphics cardOpenGL or Vulkan; every node runs on the GPU. The AI tools use an NVIDIA card; each model's graphics memory is listed in AI models

Install

Linux. Extract the .tar.xz and run ./install.sh inside it. It adds the menu entries and the .oink file type, so you can double-click a comp to open it (each double-click starts a new copy of the app, like Nuke). Nuke's .nk files are left alone.

Windows. Run the -setup.exe installer (it installs for your user, no administrator rights needed), or extract the portable .zip anywhere. The builds are not signed yet: if SmartScreen says "Windows protected your PC", choose More info, then Run anyway.

macOS. Open the .dmg and drag Oink to Applications. The first time, right-click Oink.app and choose Open, then Open again.

Activate

The alpha needs a free licence. Request one and the key comes by email. Paste it into the screen that appears on first launch. A licence covers two machines and keeps working offline for 14 days between check-ins; Help > License... shows it and lets you free a machine.

Updates

The app checks for new builds and offers to install them; Help > Check for Updates... checks right away. Each build is checked against a signature before it installs.

The AI tools

The AI nodes download their packages and models the first time you use them (several GB). See AI models for sizes and licences.

Blender (optional)

Opening .blend files, EEVEE, Storm and Alembic through Blender need Blender 5.2 LTS. Anything that needs it says so and offers an Install Blender (optional) button; the rest of the app works without it.

Logs

If something goes wrong, the logs are in ~/.cache/opencomp/logs (Linux), ~/Library/Logs/opencomp (macOS) or %LOCALAPPDATA%\opencomp\logs (Windows). Help > Report a Bug... collects them for you; see Logs & diagnostics.

Licences

Oink is proprietary software (MegaSuperSoft, all rights reserved). The libraries it ships or downloads keep their own licences: see Licences and source offer.
